1984 on the big (tele) screen

The first cinema version of 1984 was the 1956 Hollywood movie directed by Michael Anderson and starring Edmund O’Brien as Winston Smith and Michael Redgrave as O’Brien. The sci-fi film sets are futuristic, at odds with the book. The clip shows the Room 101 torture scene. Stills from the film were much later used on some German editions of the book.
