In 2008 Penguin commissioned Shepard Fairey to design new covers for 1984 and Animal Farm. Fairey used his trademark soviet propaganda style. He had already produced a piece called ‘Big Brother’ as part of a series called ‘Nineteen Eighty-Fouria’. Penguin released a limited edition of both books packaged with A3 posters of each cover for £100. Fairey has been criticised for plagiarism and using a style he does not understand, click here for a discussion on this.
